Visitors to the popular holiday resort of La Manga have been greeted with extremely long queues due to some roadworks being undertaken around KM1 on the strip. In June, much to the amazement of local business owners, Aquagest was granted planning permission and a permit by the traffic authorities to move some pipes from a privately owned plot soon to be built upon to under the Gran Via, which is the only way into La Manga. The permission was granted in June with the proviso that the work would be finished before 1st July. The Association of Restaurants and Hotels (Hostetur) on the Costa Calida has formally complained to the town council regarding the roadworks. The Councillor for Traffic, Enrique Perez Abellan, indicated that the council has approached Aquagest and has reminded it that the work should have been concluded and, if it is not completed promptly, the permit will be withdrawn.
