The Civil Guard say they have broken up the gang's organised structure in the Region.

The Civil Guard say they have broken up the organised structure of the Latin Kings in the Murcia Region, and have so far arrested six members of the youth gang after property searches in Mazarrón, Puerto de Mazarrón and Santomera. 20 minutos said two of them are under age, and all face charges of illicit association.

The man described as the founder of the Spanish chapter of the Latin Kings, Eric Javier Velastegui, an immigrant from Ecuador known as the Godfather, was sentenced to 21 years in 2006 for rape, violent robbery and kidnapping. The rape took place after he locked the victim’s boyfriend in the boot of their car.

Another gang member who was tried with him received 15 years.
