The second runway at the
Murcia-San Javier Airport is set to open this October, according to information published by La Verdad newspaper. The paper gives their source as Cecilio Hernández, who has responsibility for infrastructure with the PSRM-PSOE Socialist Party.
They note that the runway itself was completed some years ago, but is awaiting the completion of work on the new control tower. The new facilities will allow the passenger terminal to operate 24 hours a day, which is currently restricted by the military training flights which also take place at the airport.
Aena Spanish Airports puts passenger volume at San Javier last year at close to 2 million people on more than 20,000 flights.
