New Cartagena to Alhama Motorway
The Mayoress of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, took part this week in the grand opening of the new motorway joining the Campo de Cartagena with the A7 at Alhama de Murcia. Also present was the President of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, and the Mayors of the other various municipalities along the stretch of the new motorway.
The road opened last Monday, after some delay, and will be known as the RM-2. It offers an alternative route into the city and will help to alleviate some of the congestion on the A30 in the rush hour period. It also gives drivers another option when travelling to the coastal area of the Mar Menor. The motorway gives access to many important places on its route, such as the new Technology Park in Fuente Álamo, various industrial estates and the new International Airport at Corvera. It also opens up access to important tourist destinations as it wends its way down to the coast.
There are a dozen slip roads for joining the new motorway, located at the A7 Alhama de Murcia, the Industrial Estate in Alhama, the E24 junction at the edge of the Alhama area, Cuevas de Reyllo West, Los Diaz, Cuevas de Reyllo North, Fuente Álamo West, the MU601 junction which will be for the new airport, El Estrecho, Lobosillo North, Fuente Álamo Technology Park, and the A30 Murcia to Cartagena motorway junction.
